“ "President Donald Trump has asked NASA to accelerate our plans to return to the Moon and to land humans on the surface again by 2024. We will go with innovative new technologies and systems to explore more locations across the surface than was ever thought possible. This time, when we go to the Moon, we will stay. And then we will use what we learn on the Moon to take the next giant leap - sending astronauts to Mars ”
—NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine
A lot of people are asking "Why?" What is there on the moon that could possibly be the inspiration to put more people on it? Why can't we spend that money on the poor, the homeless, and other programs?
Fifty years ago the Apollo missions inspired millions of people to build more technology. This new drive built up our economy and helped fuel the new revolution of science and technology. Not only will putting people on the Moon be something the United States has come together to do, it is scientists from all over the world that will work together to put people on the moon.
The Moon represents "science". It's a treasure trove of unknown space and ideas. If the Moon contains ice, this would would mean there is another source of energy to use. If there are metals on the moon that can be mined that is another source of energy for mankind. The Moon can tell us about our planet and there will be information about our Sun as well. The Moon may become a hub for robotics and space craft as people stop on the moon for resources before heading out into space on their way to Mars, and beyond.
Humans have always been explorers and the vastness of space has inspired many minds. The Moon will be a huge "testing place", where new technologies will be developed and new ways for people to become "Earth-independent". This new vision is ambitious and is becoming a reality. NASA plans on going to the moon in 2024 and staying there.
I know! Are you ready for this??? Can you imagine what your kids and grand kids will be learning in school??? Or, even what will you be preparing for in college, jobs on the moon? Whether we like it or not, the science is moving forward at a very quick pace and if we aren't buckled up and ready to go, we might fall off the train!
You must go to this link and check out the Moon interactive, it's pretty darn cool!
Give the Moon a spin and check out the temperatures on the Moon at the moment, the phases, or even look into the Core of the Moon. I promise, you will love it!
We will look into NASA's colonizing plans next time....
i cant wait till 2024 when we go to the moon again
ReplyDeleteThat website is cool.
ReplyDeletethis is so funny
ReplyDeleteThe core was so cool. I liked the waxing Gibbous and moon facts. It is VERY cold on the moon.
