Season's On Other Planets

When colonies go to the Moon and Mars some people wonder if they will have seasons like we have here on Earth.  (Personally, I would wonder if they would have trees, flowers, maybe some lakes? A little air?)  Astronomers have assured us that yes, other planets have seasons.

The pattern of our Solar System appears to be, if you are a TILTED then you will have seasons.  The planet that is most like ours is Mars.  The tilt on Mars is very close to Earth. Earth is tilted 23.5 degrees and Mars is tilted 25 degrees. Basically that's just a fraction away.  But what about the other planets?  Things get pretty wacky if we look at Neptune or Uranus...

Neptune rotates slowly and sometimes will storm for 20 years!  Think about seasons on our Dwarf Planet, Pluto.  It takes Pluto 248 years to orbit around the Sun.  At times it is so far away, and other times it is much closer.  Who knows what kind of seasons that would cause! The Voyager probe gave us a glimpse into the world of Pluto.

Apparently Pluto was closest to the sun in 1990.  Pluto's atmosphere is made of nitrogen and as this warmed the nitrogen may have vented and steamed like nitrogen does here on Earth.  Since 1990 Pluto has been moving away from the Sun for a long winter that may last over 100 years.  The nitrogen in the atmosphere will freeze in the atmosphere and fall to the surface.  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-6981209/Winter-coming-Pluto-Study-finds-atmosphere-freeze-COLLAPSE-2030.html

Uranus has the oddest tilt of all! And possibly the oddest seasons of all...

What are seasons like there?

As you can see, Uranus has it's north and south poles pointed toward the Sun.  On the dark side of Uranus, you would never see the sun for about 21 years!  During the Spring and Fall Uranus would see sunlight every 17 hours.  That's how fast Uranus rotates on its axis.

Right now we enjoy the four seasons on our own planet, but in the future when humans have the ability to travel to distant planets, they will need to worry about what they are going to wear when they visit strange and wacky planets like Uranus, Jupiter and possibly our very own dwarf planet, Pluto.
