Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are sometimes called the "terrestrial" planets because they are made up of dense rocky materials made up of metal elements. All four have solid surfaces and atmospheres; some are thin (Mercury) and some are very thick (Venus).
These four planets orbit closest to the Sun. Earth supports life and the least habitable planets are Mercury and Venus, Mars could have supported life, but more research is needed.
All four have an iron core, and have mountains and valleys on them. Only Mars and Earth have polar ice caps.
None of the inner planets have rings, but scientists suspect they may have had them early in the Solar System formation.
Scientists estimate that there could be 40 billion planets like "earth" in our Milky Way galaxy.
There's lots to learn about the planets in our neighborhood!
Thats cool that only mars and earth have ice caps
ReplyDeleteIf the earth blows up, I hope we can get to one of the other 40 billion planets!
ReplyDeleteI like the polar bear
ReplyDeleteSo if earth is overtaken by trash, we can go to a planet like earth. unless it doesn't have water.
ReplyDeletei feel bad for phobos hes getting tworn apart
ReplyDeleteit would have been cool to see the other planets with rings!
